Mattel Inc, America’s largest toy maker is asking the Indian government to open 100% FDI in toys retailing. Toy companies grow with the growth in retail sector.
Mr. Chris Willson, VP of Mattel said,
We need to grown. In the long term we see India as a potentially very-very large market. The problem is local retailers’ operations are relatively small in comparison with foreign players.
Mattel entered India with Blowplast [You maybe aware of the Leo Mattel brand, it was from this JV]. But the JV was called off after Blowplast failed to meet quality standards of Mattel. Since then Mattel is dealing with Indian retailers on its own but is unhappy that it can’t setup its own stores.
